Florida Plans

Ok so as you will know by now, i love my Florida hols and try to go at least once a year - latest trip planned for October and going for 3 weeks, our 4th trip so still got loads to visit, everytime we go there is something new!

This time slightly different as we are doing a 8 or so hour drive to Pensacola because my boys want to visit the naval aviation museum, never visited that part of Florida before so looking forward to seeing what its gonna be like :D

Other plans include all the disney parks, epcot food and wine festival, universal, showcase of citrus, cirque du soleil show,legoland, staying a night at a disney hotel and loads of shopping! fave shops are walmart, yankee candle, trend at downtown disney (fantastic tinkerbell clothes there!) and loads more...

Plan on doing a number of restaurants, incudes longhorn steakhouse, cheesecake factory (my absolute must do!)yoders, san angel inn, sweet tomatoes etc

Although no olive garden!!!! every time i have been there, i always get sick after! i dont know why!

Welcome

Following on from my sponsored slim for jdrf (which raised over £100) i am now blogging about my weightloss journey, my eating tips, exercise, my wins from competitions and of course raising awareness for aaron's type 1 diabetes.

Aaron copes well with his diabetes as he has pretty much grown up with it (diagnosed at age 2) but he does struggle getting his blood sugars to a good level and this results in him being very moody/angry most of the time, it breaks my heart when he comes to me and says why cant he be like everyone else, he has so much to cope with at such a young age.

I long for the day when there is a cure found for type 1 diabetes.

I enter competitions as a hobby and enter roughly well over 100 a day and have had some fantastic wins, love entering postal and text comps and tend to go nuts buying postcards lol

I make all our own meals from stratch and make our own bread/yoghurt, as i like to know exactly what goes into the food we make.

A BIT ABOUT JDRF

Type 1 diabetes strikes children suddenly and requires multiple daily injections of insulin and finger prick blood glucose tests. Insulin, however, is not a cure for type 1 diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.

Our history

Type 1 diabetes in children, especially in the under fives, has been rising at an alarming rate. JDRF is the only organisation in the world whose primary aim is to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications. It was founded in 1970 in the USA by a small group of parents of children with type 1 diabetes who recognised that insulin injections are not a cure for this life threatening and lifelong condition.

JDRF, affiliated to JDRF International, was founded in the UK in 1986. Research funding decisions are made by international scientific peer review and a lay review committees. JDRF in the UK is an independent charity with its own Board of Directors and registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales.

At a global level, JDRF volunteers and staff have been responsible for raising over £600 million for type 1 diabetes research since the Foundation's inception in 1970.

Our mission

JDRF funds excellence in research into the causes, prevention, treatment and cure of type 1 diabetes and its serious and debilitating complications.

We are the largest voluntary health organisation in the world, raising more money to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications than any other voluntary health agency worldwide. To date we have provided more than £600 million to research internationally and we are proud to say that we have funded every major breakthrough in type 1 diabetes research in the past three decades.

At JDRF we are putting even greater emphasis on fundraising to support the exciting developments coming on stream from around the world. We are funding more than 20 UK research projects this year.

Although our primary aim is to find a cure, we recognise the challenge of living with type 1 diabetes. We provide information about the progress of research to individuals and families living with type 1 diabetes, through publications and public meetings. Our regional staff and volunteers help schools and businesses understand diabetes and work with children and adults with type 1 diabetes.
